A powerful magnitude of 7.8 has hit near Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal before noon on Saturday. The tremors reached as far as New Delhi in India and Dhaka in Bangladesh. This is the most powerful earthquake to have hit these areas recently and this catastrophe has struck near Delhi, Jaipur, Ranchi and Uttar Pradesh as well. This earthquake has also triggered an avalanche in the Mount Everest, the World’s highest mountain causing destruction at the base camp.
At least 680 people are feared to be killed and many are trapped under the debris expecting the death toll to rise even more. The earthquake has destroyed many buildings and homes turning them to rubbles and it is reported that many are trapped under it. The Indian states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Sikkim that shares border with Nepal have also reported damages.
The last major earthquake struck Nepal in 1934 which had a magnitude of 8.4 leading to the death of around 11,000 people.
