Transportation Palakkad

Palakkad is connected to other places by means of roadways and railways. Palakkad junction is a major railway station in the Southern Railway and the Shornur railway station in Palakkad district is the station from which the trains coming from Tamil Nadu are diverted to South Kerala and North Kerala. From the Shornur Junction, there are railway lines towards Calicut (North Kerala side), Thiruvananthapuram (South Kerala side), Nilambur and Palakkad junction (towards Tamil Nadu). There is also a meter gauge line connecting parts of Tamil Nadu such as Madurai, Pollachi and Dindigul. This meter gauge is proposed to be converted into broad gauge and so it has been dismantled.

The main Railway Stations in Palakkad District are Bharathapuzha, Mannanur, Palakkad Town, Valapuzha, Lakkidi, Palappuram, Walayar, Pattambi, Kodumunda, Palakkad Junction, Vadakannikapuram, Kollengode, Mankarai, Parli, Kanjikode, Muthalamada, Pudunagaram, Karakkad, Ottapalam and Shoranur Junction Railway Stations.

Palakkad has a fairly good network of roadways. The National Highways through Palakkad district are NH 17, NH 47 and NH 213. The State Highway that passes through Palakkad are SH 22, SH 23, SH 25, SH 26, SH 27, SH 39, SH 52, SH 53, SH 58, SH 62 and SH 74. The main Bus Stations in Palakkad District are at Chittur, Vadakkancheri, Palakkad and Mannarkkad. Frequent buses are available at service to places in and out of Kerala.
