Thalasseri Fort

thalassery-fortThalassery Fort is in Kannur district. It was built by the British East India Company and was the Military centre of the British. This fort built in the year 1708, stands on a cliff in Thalasseri beach. It is a square shaped fort made of laterite stones having huge walls, tunnels to sea, huge carved doors etc. There are secret tunnels so that the people from the fort can escape into the sea in case of any attacks. Some other attractions nearby to the fort are a lighthouse, Brennen cemetery, St. John’s Anglican Church and collector’s mansion. Tombs of many British officials are there in this cemetery. It is now considered as a historical monument. It is also a tourist destination and a visit to this fort will make one relaxed.
